Electric locomotive is a type of traction equipment used in the transportation of rail vehicles. Its power comes from the use of traction motors to drive the wheels to rotate, and the friction between the wheels and the track surface is utilized to make the locomotive run on the track. This operating mode is not only limited by the power of the traction motor (or internal combustion engine), but also by the friction between the wheels and the rail surface. The slope that locomotives can travel on is limited, and the slope of the transport track is generally 3 ‰, with local slopes not exceeding 30 ‰. It is classified by structure into overhead electric locomotives and battery electric locomotives.

The function of battery electric locomotives is to transport the ore (waste rock) discharged from the mining funnel, mining yard or chute through transportation tunnels to underground ore storage warehouses, underground (or middle) yards, or directly out of the mine through the adit entrance. The materials, equipment, personnel, etc. at the underground (or middle) yards are transported to the work site. The main task of open-pit mine locomotive transportation is to transport the ore from the mining yard to the beneficiation yard and the waste rock to the waste disposal yard.
